Do you love the look of the fancy Easter table settings, but lack the time, funds and maybe the creative ability to throw it all together?
I love the idea of a beautiful decorated table for each season, and holiday. However my big obstacles are the funds – I mean it could easily cost me $200+ just to decorate the table not including the dishes!! I am far too practical to shell that kind of cash out for something you use one day a year. Also storage is a problem. My house is small therefore my cupboard, and storage space is limited! I simply do not have the room to store the seasonal table decor that I would love to have.
So my solution is to keep it simple and inexpensive. Use pieces that can be used in other ways, and bargain shop for some great deals!
Top Tips for inexpensive seasonal table decor success!
- Pick a colour scheme and stick to it
- Shop close to the holiday to find good deals, but not too close that everything is picked over
- The dollar store is your friend
- Use items around the home, and re purpose them for your seasonal decor
- Buy items that you know you will use in other ways
- Pick something small that can only be used for that purpose, but won’t take too much room to store. This will really tie it all together.
I went to Micheals Craft Store the first of the Easter week. All their Easter items were on 40-50% clearance. Going at the beginning of the week ensures you will still find some great items with the brand new clearance price. I picked up this beautiful burlap and pink ribbon table runner. The silk flowers for the vase, and the adorable flowered crowned bunny. I also grabbed these little sparkly Easter eggs, they have fish line hangers on them so I will be able to reuse them for my Easter kids photo shoot. I also found this adorable bunny banner that I cut up and used as table napkin ties.
The next stop was Homesense – my favourite store! I got this beautiful floral table cloth for $25 that screams spring, but not Easter so I will be able to continue to use it past Easter weekend. I also picked up these adorable Easter egg plates for $8.00 – (Please excuse the Easter Egg plate not in the original photos! I forgot about them, and took pics after! Imagine them to the side as a bread or salad plate.) Don’t get me wrong I wanted to go crazy in Homesense but I was trying hard to stick to a low budget. I also grabbed these rose tinted wine glasses, that actually are plastic! This is great because I will use them all summer long on our patio, not just the one time!
The next step was the dollar store, where I picked up bright yellow napkins and these cute little Easter Eggs that came with chalk, so I can write out guests name right on them! They will double for a kids toy/craft where they can draw designs on them after.
I used a vase we got at our wedding for the flowers, a cake platter that I had gotten at Homesense a while ago, for adding height to the centrepiece, and our fine china also from our wedding for the rest of the table. I used 2 Tiffany and Co. stemless wind glasses as small vases, and place silk hydrangeas that I already use in another place in my home.
Overall I was really happy with the results, and the final price tag.
