We had the privilege of celebrating our newly 2 year old foster son’s birthday. These boys are our 5th and 6th foster care placement, and it was the first time we got to celebrate a birthday! Our little guy absolutely loves trucks, most days you will find him, rolling his trucks up our walls, and throwing them down the stairs, only to retrieve them, and roll them back up the railing! So naturally a construction theme seemed like the best fit for our little love! This was so much fun for me to plan, because I have always planned girly birthday parties in the past!
We rented a local play place party room, and invited our friends! Since our crew alone is 4 kiddos, we had 4 friends join us, plus an adorable little baby!
Of course I scoured Pinterest for some fun ideas, but also came up with a few of my own!
We went with a colour scheme of orange, yellow and black. I ordered little trucks from amazon, and used them to top the home made dirt cake. I filled construction pylons with crew snacks, and the biggest hit with the kids was the make your own dirt cup! I went to party city and got orange pails and labeled them with little signs like “pebbles, earth worms, nuts and bolts. etc” for all the goodies and snacks.
We did this party on a budget, and also had to work with a time constraint for the party room rental. I had to keep it somewhat simple in order to be able to set up and take down quickly!
I made cute little caution signs saying “Caution 2 year old Ahead” “Birthday Crew” and of course a happy birthday banner customized with his name! I got all of the supplies for the signs at Micheals Craft Store.
We did colour coded candy, all purchased from Party City! Also from Party City, I found these cute little yellow boxes as “tool boxes” and labeled each one with each child’s name. Inside they had orange foil chocolate coins as their “crew wage”, a truck or tractor and some candy! They were a big hit, and the kids had an absolute blast!
Unfortunately my printer broke right before the party so I wasn’t able to print out all the cute printables that I found on Pinterest, and had to hand write all my little signs. Check out my Pinterest Board for some more ideas and inspirations!
I must say, this theme was a lot of fun to create, the kids loved it! I wish I had a bit more of a budget and I would of gone all out with construction hats, and tool belts for the kids. More decor, with a professional cake, but the thing with kids is, they don’t care. Balloons, sugar, and cake is all they need for a successful party!
